- On Sept 20, the TPLF and six other armed groups announced an alliance to remove Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
- Full-scale fighting broke out on Sept 22–23 across Tigray, Amhara and Afar. Tigrayan forces took the airports in Mekelle, Axum and Shire, and flights to the region were cancelled.
- About 150,000 people have been displaced. Phone and internet services in Tigray are disrupted.
- The UN, African Union, IGAD, EU, US and UK have called for de-escalation and a return to the 2022 Pretoria peace agreement.
